MATERIALS AND TOOLS

I’m quite excited about Part Two as I love working with colour. I purchased a variety of pens, crayons, dipping ink, pencils, oil sticks and pastels. I experimented with all of them! See the sunflower images above. The images I actually liked the best are done with the childrens’ crayons and felt pens (Crayola) – probably because the colours are bold and unsubtle – this immediately appeals to me. However, to develop my skills I would like to look at softer, more delicate techniques and materials.
I did some experiments with using newspaper as a surface. The pages of the news paper I picked I hoped would work against the image I drew -a fresh sunflower at its peak, on top of an advert for care for the over 50s (which I now am!)
