PART THREE, VIEWFINDER

I read in the course notes about viewfinders and didn’t quite get why they would be necessary.  Couldn’t I just choose what to draw and then draw it?  However, on going out to the big outdoors to look at subjects I could re-create on paper, the penny dropped.  The outside landscape is so vast that your eyes are taking in about 300 degrees of the world around, but the paper can not represent all the eyes see (though there are techniques where it possibly could – maybe using a method like Anthony Green does for his interiors). The viewfinder helps pull what you see in to a manageable frame

I also find taking photos on my phone a useful tool for framing scenes and I use my phone for this purpose.
